Two things make parasite control on this coast different from anywhere else in Kenya.
Hookworm and sand. Hookworm larvae need warmth and moisture to survive in soil, and they die when it dries out or cools. Coastal sand supplies exactly what they need, year round, and beaches here carry heavy traffic from dogs that are never dewormed. That makes the environmental burden continuous no matter how diligent you are with your own animals. It also matters to your household, because hookworm larvae go through human skin.
No off-season for ticks. Nowhere in Kenya gets a winter, but the coast has the heaviest and most continuous tick pressure in the country. Prevention here has to be unbroken. A dog treated carefully for three months and then forgotten for six weeks is not a protected dog, and six weeks is enough to pick up an infected tick.
We weigh every animal before dosing. Owner estimates run low, consistently, and an underdosed worming is close to no worming. It takes a minute.
And we will talk about the kennel, not just the dog. Treating the animal while ignoring the bedding and the shaded patch it sleeps on produces reinfestation within days, which owners reasonably read as the product having failed.

Common questions
Why does my dog keep getting ticks even though I treat it?
Almost always because only the dog is being treated. Ticks live in the kennel, the bedding, the wall cracks and the shaded sand your dog lies in. Treat the environment or you get reinfestation within days.
Can I use the cattle dip from the agrovet?
Please ask first. Several livestock acaricides are unsafe for dogs and lethal to cats, including by contact with a treated dog, and the dose is built for a 400kg animal. If cost is the driver, tell us and we will find something cheaper that is safe.
