This coastline runs a long way and there is a ferry in the middle of it, so travel time matters more here than distance. Each page below is honest about how long it actually takes us to reach you.
Mombasa and around: same-day home visits
Nyali Nyali dogs swim in the sea more than dogs anywhere else we cover, and salt water plus fine sand in the ear canal is the most reliable trigger for otitis we see. A great many Nyali ear cases are simply a swimming habit that nobody has managed with post-swim drying. Bamburi The Malindi Road runs straight through Bamburi carrying fast heavy traffic including cement lorries, and it separates residential blocks from the beach. Road traffic injuries to dogs crossing it are a recurring Bamburi presentation in a way they are not in the quieter compounds of Nyali. Mtwapa Mtwapa has exceptionally high rental turnover and a large short-stay population, and animals are abandoned or rehomed at the end of tenancies more often here than anywhere else on the coast. Unknown vaccination history is the normal starting point for a Mtwapa consultation rather than the exception. Tudor Tudor is dense island housing with connected boundary walls and flat roofs, so cats travel routes their owners never see and range much further than expected. Abscesses from territorial fighting are the routine Tudor presentation, and they are far commoner here than on the mainland compounds. Kizingo Kizingo households are long-settled in a way the rest of coastal Mombasa is not, and the pet population is correspondingly old. Most of our Kizingo work is geriatric: arthritis, dental disease and end-of-life care rather than puppy courses. Likoni Likoni has the largest free-roaming and semi-owned dog population of any area we cover, and rabies circulates in exactly that population. Vaccination here protects your dog from the dogs it will inevitably meet, which is a stronger practical argument than the legal one.
The wider coast: scheduled visiting days
We cover these properly, but on planned days rather than at short notice. Malindi is around 120km and two hours away, and a promise of same-day cover there would be one we could not keep. Ring early and we will fit you into the next run.
Diani Diani has a well-known Angolan colobus population moving through gardens on canopy bridges, alongside vervets and baboons. Dogs chase them, and the bite and scratch wounds that follow are deep, infect readily and raise a rabies exposure question that has to be answered rather than assumed. Kilifi Kilifi has a long-established sailing and boatyard community around the creek, and a notable number of dogs here live on or around boats and yards. Marine antifouling paints, solvents and yard chemicals are a poisoning risk specific to this area that we do not see in Mombasa's residential suburbs. Watamu Watamu sits inside a marine national park with protected beaches and an active turtle nesting programme. Dogs digging or running loose on nesting beaches is a genuine conservation problem here, and Local Ocean Conservation works those beaches directly, so responsible dog control is a community expectation rather than just good manners. Malindi Malindi has a large and long-settled Italian community, and its pet population reflects decades of continuous ownership rather than seasonal turnover. Animals here are older, usually well documented, and the work skews heavily towards chronic and geriatric medicine.
