- Nyali dogs swim in the sea more than dogs anywhere else we cover, and salt water plus fine sand in the ear canal is the most reliable trigger for otitis we see. A great many Nyali ear cases are simply a swimming habit that nobody has managed with post-swim drying.
- The expatriate and diplomatic turnover in Nyali is high, so pet export paperwork comes up here constantly. The rabies titre waiting period is what catches families out, and Nyali generates more of those conversations than the rest of the coast combined.
- Beachfront compounds here back onto sand that carries heavy dog traffic, much of it from free-roaming dogs that are never dewormed. Hookworm pressure on that sand is continuous regardless of how well individual households manage their own animals.
- Nyali has a visible population of well-fed but unowned cats around the hotels and restaurants on Links Road. Most sterilisation enquiries from this area are about a cat the caller feeds rather than owns.

Ears come first. Dogs here swim, and salt water and fine sand sit in a canal that drains badly and dries slowly. We treat a lot of Nyali ears, and most of them are the same dog coming back because the swimming continued and nothing else changed. Post-swim drying solves more of this than any course of drops.
Export paperwork comes second. Nyali households move on, often at short notice, and the rabies titre timeline is fixed and unforgiving. If a move is even likely, start early.
The beach sand is the third thing. It carries heavy traffic from dogs that are never dewormed, so hookworm pressure there is constant. That matters for your dog and, because hookworm larvae go through human skin, for anyone in the household walking barefoot on it.

My dog swims every day and its ears keep flaring up.
That is the commonest Nyali presentation and it is manageable. Dry the outer canal after every swim, and ask us about a drying ear cleaner. Treating each flare without changing the routine guarantees the next one.
We are relocating next year. When do we start the paperwork?
Now. If your destination needs a rabies antibody titre test, the waiting period afterwards can be three months and cannot be shortened by anyone.
