The surgery is the same operation performed anywhere. The recovery, on this coast, is not.
Wounds must stay dry and out of sand. That means no sea, no pool, no beach, for the full recovery period, and it is the instruction most often broken here because the dog swims every day and the family forgets. Salt water and fine sand in a fresh incision turns a clean routine surgery into an infected one, and it happens often enough that we say it twice.
Humidity slows healing and favours infection. A wound that would be unremarkable in Nairobi needs closer watching here. That is why the follow-up check matters more, and why we would rather see the wound than have you describe it over the phone.
We operate on morning lists so that recovery from anaesthetic is not happening through the hottest part of the day. An animal coming round while overheating is a worse recovery and a harder one to monitor.
Otherwise the arithmetic is the same across Kenya: males cost less than females, cats cost less than dogs, and dogs are priced by weight because a spay on a 40kg dog is genuinely more work than on a 6kg one.
Ask any clinic whether pain relief is included, whether the animal is monitored while it wakes, whether the wound check is in the price, and whether the quote is the total. Those four answers tell you what you need to know.
